Remember when I teased I was working on something in my last post? Well, I finally got around to completing it this weekend.
I started writing this video after thinking to myself: I enjoy writing and watching video essays.
Ever since I fell down the video essay rabbit hole during the pandemic, thanks to the MICHAELSOFT BINBOWS video I came across. Since then, I’ve been hooked.
That one video introduced me to a whole new genre of YouTube content. I was amazed at how someone could turn a not-so-mundane topic into such a fascinating story.
It was the beginning of me enjoying longform YouTube content, something I still love to this day.
Back then, I thought about creating a video of my own in the same style. But I never got around to it. Mainly because I lacked video editing skills and a solid idea for a story. So I shelved the idea.
Until earlier this year.
At almost age 40, there’s a lot of things I can say I’ve done but making a video essay wasn’t one of them.
Since then, I’ve always wanted to make my own. And I guess now I’ve finally done it!
It’s not amazing, or the most interesting content. But what matters is that it’s done. It’s completed. Finito. That’s the hardest part. Getting started. I can make it good later.
I’d like to make more videos. It was a fun process. And now I have the knowledge to make the next one better. But will I make another video? I don’t know.
This one took me a long-ass time to write and create. I had to learn Da Vinci Resolve from scratch. And I had learn to speak to the camera 💀
At least now, I have a benchmark. A starting point to improve from. And maybe that’s the point.
