Today I want to write about one of the most influential bands to me. The Used. There’s not much to say about these guys, just four dudes who wrote and played rad music. I got to know about them thanks to a friend introducing to me to ‘The Taste of Ink’ and ‘Buried Myself Alive’. I was hooked from the start. I listened to them nonstop. ‘Buried Myself Alive’ became one of my favorite songs of all time. I don’t think I’ve ever skipped the track before whenever it came on my playlist. Listening to The Used’s earlier stuff brings me back in time. Back to college, when life was careless and free.
It was a great time for music.
The Used – Buried Myself Alive
While The Used wrote amazing songs, they opened my eyes (ears?) to a whole new genre of music, which led me to discover other great bands. If it wasn’t for The Used, half the bands I listen to now wouldn’t exist on my radar. The band introduced me to the concept of screaming and singing in music. I loved everything they put out – I still have original physical copies of their first few albums (my favorite ones).
I lost interest in them after Artwork and their later stuff, but their first three albums will always have a place in my music catalog. However, recently I checked out their newer stuff and it’s not as bad as I used to think it was. Maybe it’s just me growing up. But yeah. I’m glad I managed to catch them live once, they put on a great show.
Anyway, if you know me and I haven’t introduced you to The Used before, I probably didn’t speak to you for long enough. These guys are the shit. If you like singing/screaming vocals and dig catchy, heavy guitar riffs. You might want to check them out:
